This project PME inc. scope of this project was three 130,000 bbl secondary containment light oil storage tank bases. Work included site prep, site stripping, construction of subbase and base to final grade, permitter containment berm, supply & installation of liner and leak detection system.
What makes this project unique, once on site the sub-base was deemed unsuitable to build on, and a solution needed to be provided. The solution was to incorporate “Stone Column – Vibro Pier technology. This system reinforces the ground conditions to increase the bearing capacity and shear resistance and reduce settlements from new loads. This technique involves pre-drilling each pier location to full depth, which terminated into the shale layer. Aggregate is then introduced into the pre-drilled hole and compacted in lifts by repetitive ramming with a powerful, specially designed vibrator
Project Execution: Drill 471 stone support columns per/tank pad, with each column having a dimeter of approximately of 0.9m x 10m in average length. Considerable time and cost were saved when comparing to traditional export and import – place methodology.
