In the demanding environment of a log yard with heavy machinery and high traffic, maintenance of the ground surface is crucial for smooth operations. Proper and frequent yard maintenance fosters continued operations but is usually costly.
Paradox’s Tough Cell® geocells presented a perfect option for one of their long-standing clients, who faced major accessibility challenges in their logging activities. NPA geocells we used to reinforce the yard and provided a smooth riding course that has withstood heavy, frequent loads and saved the client significant future maintenance costs. Project Overview
For many years, Canfor’s Fort St. John’s mill battled extremely muddy and contaminated soil in its yard, supporting approximately 100 truckloads daily. This caused costly delays in lumber production due to inaccessibility. Paradox designed, supplied, and installed a turn-key reinforcement solution using Tough Cell® NPA geocells for the log yard and storage areas. The solution solved Canfor’s key accessibility, safety, and reliability issues and boosted productivity. A decade later, the yard is still performing well.
The Mission and Challenge
Paradox repaired, reinforced, and restored reliable access to the log yard and hot deck without hampering yard productivity during construction. In collaboration with Engineering Design Consultants Stratum Logics, Paradox designed and executed a solution completed in three phases over six months, eliminating the need for shut downs or slower operational capacity.
The Outcome
Canfor’s Fort St. John yard is now easily accessible year-round, allowing uninterrupted operations. The repair provided a stable, smooth, renewed surface, ensuring safety and reliability. Moreover, the average annual cost savings were a significant win for the client!
