British Columbia NDP Leader David Eby's election campaign is expecting a boost today as Prime Minster Mark Carney makes an energy announcement in Vancouver.

LNG Canada said earlier today that it will go ahead with the multibillion-dollar Phase 2 expansion of its liquefied natural gas export terminal in Kitimat, B.C.

The expansion would double LNG Canada's capacity to 28 million tonnes a year and it is one of the five first developments referred to Ottawa's major projects office last year.

Eby said while in Prince Rupert yesterday that LNG Canada's Phase 2 will be one of the largest investments in Canadian history and is a vindication of the NDP government's approach of ensuring good returns for B.C., getting communities working together and maintaining high environmental standards.

Carney is also expected to make an announcement on ocean protection while in Metro Vancouver.

The LNG announcement comes as the B.C. Conservatives announced on Monday that its government, if elected, would triple provincial LNG production by 2035, but the NDP pushed back, saying that promise already falls well below the current pace of development.
