Appalachia: Ample Resource Beyond Depleting Cores

EIR finds maturing Tier 1 Marcellus and Utica inventory is being supplemented by adjacent fairways, new delineation and deeper resource across the basin

The findings show a basin moving beyond its most established cores rather than running out of resource. Several Tier 1 Marcellus and Utica areas are maturing at current development rates, raising the importance of adjacent fairways, new delineation and lower-tier resource. EIR identifies peripheral SW Marcellus and Utica as the strongest adjacent opportunities, with recent West Virginia Marcellus productivity matching or exceeding core SW Pennsylvania.

NE Pennsylvania supports decades of activity beyond the core, supported by Upper Marcellus delineation that holds higher breakevens than the Lower Marcellus.

“Appalachia is entering a more mature phase of development, but the resource story does not end with the depletion of its best-known cores.
