UE has announced that its Vanguard WirelessHART® Gas Detector has received TÜV certification to IEC/EN 60079-29-1 (performance requirements for detectors of flammable gases). According to UE, this is an industry first for a wireless fixed point gas detector—expanding Vanguard’s role from leak monitoring to life safety applications.
Already known as the first and only WirelessHART-registered gas detector—paired with an industry-leading 5-year battery life—the Vanguard platform now adds a certified performance path for methane and propane detection using newly designed sensors that meet the IEC standard.
What’s certified
- Applies to: Vanguard TCD60 gas detector units
- Gases covered: Methane and Propane
- Certified sensors: methane 02 / propane 08
- Replacement sensors: methane 62169-71 / propane 62169-72
- Labeling: New nameplate and sensor label indicate IEC certification and pairing/installation requirements
UE notes that previously sold Vanguard sensors remain available for users who need the extended ambient temperature range they offer; however, those legacy sensors are not IEC-certified.
Why it matters
For operators seeking to deploy fixed gas detection without hardwiring, a WirelessHART-based, life-safety-approved device can lower install time and cost, accelerate temporary or remote deployments, and integrate with existing WirelessHART gateways.
