The above logs, from 3 North American unconventional horizontal wells, were generated without any down hole tools using Rocsol’s D-Series software. Most companies don’t realize that they have enough existing data from the drilling of a well and information from offset wells to accurately create a geomechanical and reservoir property log without running a suite of downhole tools. The Rocsol D-Series logging technology uses routinely collected surface drilling data (EDR data) to calculate geomechanical properties using two modules, D-WOB and D-ROCK. No downhole tools are required. The system uses a combined three-dimensional torque and drag (T&D) model to estimate the effective DWOB profile from the horizontal well drilling data. An inverted rate of penetration (ROP) model integrated with the drill bit cutting effects, bit wear effect as a function of drilling data and rock abrasiveness to calculate more accurate profiles of rock strengths, Young’s modulus, porosity, permeability, and Poisson’s ratio. Brittleness and a stimulation index can then be calculated using Rocsol’s latest software development.
