Calgary / Alberta / Dec 03, 2020 – Hive Innovations Inc. (HIVE) has announced the acquisition of HipVap Technologies Inc.(HipVap) as an addition to their growing suite of innovative SAGD technologies and solutions. HipVap’s Indirect Fired Steam Generator (IFSG) is a transformative steam generation solution that can drastically reduce the facility costs associated with typical SAGD steam generation by creating 98% quality steam directly from untreated produced water. An independent third party assessment concluded that the IFSG technology has the opportunity to reduce make-up water usage by 25%, reduce direct CO2 emissions by 5%, and reduce the ecological footprint by over 50%. The IFSG was developed to reduce the complexity and cost of steam generation by using untreated produced water as the boiler feedwater stream. The IFSG is transformative technology deployment for the oil sands industry and is well suited for small scale, well pad based, steam generation. The technology is resistant to the types of upsets (oil and calcium/magnesium hardness in the feed water) that would lead to tube failures in typical steam generation technologies.
The acquisition of the HipVap technology allows HIVE to offer more innovative solutions to its focused clientele in the energy space. The HipVap IFSG technology was developed by Third Bay and has been pilot tested to confirm the validity of the technology on varying industry water samples.
