Calgary, Alberta (July 26, 2018) – The Petroleum Services Association of Canada (PSAC) today announced its annual golf tournament, newly branded as the “PSAC Working Energy Golf Classic” powering Canadian energy and education, raising funds for awareness and education, raised over $42,000 thanks to the generosity of energy industry companies, employees, their guests, as well as the numerous sponsors who took to the fairways in Calgary yesterday. Over 130 golfers participated in the tournament, which took place at the Inglewood Golf & Curling Club.
This year, lead by event Chairman and Board member David McHattie of Tenaris, PSAC took a new strategic direction with the golf tournament, revitalizing it to be a premier event for executives to celebrate Canadian energy and the contributions of the services sector to the Canadian economy while continuing to raise funds for education. Canada’s energy services sector employs over 450,000 of the 550,000 Canadians in the energy sector. Canadian energy is a vital contributor to the standard of living enjoyed by Canadians and Canadian values like health, safety, environment, innovation, competitiveness, the rule of law and democracy are an integral part of the Canadian energy brand celebrated during this event.
The annual tournament is the primary fundraiser for the PSAC Education Fund which was established in 2001 to promote the awareness of careers in the petroleum services sector and to create a labour pool for the upstream petroleum services sector. Since 2001, the Fund has awarded over $400,000 in scholarships and grants to deserving recipients.
“Once again, the petroleum services sector came through with their outstanding generosity to support education and energy awareness despite the ongoing challenges of this sector in Canada,” says Tom Whalen, President & CEO of PSAC. It’s inspiring to see the spirit of community giving here at our PSAC Working Energy Golf Classic as well as similar functions elsewhere in communities across Canada where the majority of our members live, work and raise their families. Despite tough economic times these community minded folks step-up to give back, as they clearly understand that tough times in the energy sector affects all Canadians.”
The 2018 Roger Soucy Legacy Scholarship, funded by KPMG, was awarded to Madison Brittner of Calgary, Alberta, affiliated with Rapid Rod Service. Ms. Brittner is currently pursuing undergraduate studies at the University of Calgary.
The 2018 Remember Jordan Scholarship, funded by Ditch Hitch, was awarded to Aditya Sharma of Grande Prairie, Alberta, affiliated with Trican Well Service. Mr. Sharma is currently pursuing undergraduate studies at the University of Waterloo.
Aside from various channels of energy awareness education, the PSAC Education Fund also provides financial support to PSAC scholarship programs for students enrolled in petroleum services related programs at Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) in Edmonton; Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) in Calgary; Saskatchewan Polytechnic in Saskatoon; Keyano College in Fort McMurray, and Northern Lights College at various campuses throughout northeastern British Columbia.
The Petroleum Services Association of Canada is the national trade association representing the service, supply and manufacturing sectors within the upstream petroleum industry. As the voice of Canada’s petroleum service, supply and manufacturing sector, PSAC advocates for its members to enable the continued innovation, technological advancement and in-the-field experience they supply to Canada’s energy explorers and producers, helping to increase efficiency, improve safety and protect the environment.
