SNC-Lavalin has been awarded a contract to provide engineering and procurement services for substations to power the Meydan One development in Dubai, valued at about $90 million.
The Montreal-based company said it will undertake the full design and delivery of all three substations, including the civil design and delivery of three two-storey buildings, all electrical equipment and electro-mechanical works.
The Mahra, Jeyad and Forsan 132/11kV substations are expected to be operational in late 2019, it added.
“SNC-Lavalin has considerable experience in delivering substations, with over 2,500 completed around the world over the last 100 years, and we’re proud to be using that experience to successfully and safely deliver this project,” said Marie-Claude Dumas, president, clean power, SNC-Lavalin.
“The Mahra, Jeyad and Forsan substations are a key part of this exciting development, helping to form the backbone of the electrical infrastructure that will address growth demand in the new Meydan One development.”
Meydan One will be home to 83,000 people and the substations will form the key component of the electrical infrastructure of the development, SNC-Lavalin said.
It will also include the 711-metre tall Dubai One Tower, Meydan One Mall, a five-star hotel, a civic plaza with dancing water fountains, an indoor sports facility, a 4km canal and a marina.
