It’s a strong message in support of the resource sector – and it’s hard to miss.
Spanning the entire length of a tanker, owned by AIM Transport/Baytex Energy, and pulled by Nexon Ltd., is a message to take action in support of oil and gas industry via canadaaction.ca
“We are proud to be an employer and part of the oil and gas industry, quite frankly,” said Brian Ector, senior vice president of capital markets and public affairs, Baytex Energy.
“We’re proud to support our 92 employees in Peace River. We believe very strongly in our sector, the jobs it creates.”
Ector said it’s an effective way for Baytex to show its support. “We have one tanker in Peace River and one in Lloydminster. I think it helps form part of a positive conversation around the oil and gas industry.”
Asked how long the their message will be delivered this way, Ector said, “This is a long tern part of our message, as permanent as it can get.
“It’s to show our support for the industry, not only Baytex, but other service providers, working in an environmentally sustainable and responsible manner.”
Corney Reimer is the owner of Nexon Ltd., and has worked as a contractor for AIM Transport for five years.
“I’m super proud to pull the tanker, spreading a message,” he said.
“Our main economy is driven by oil. I hope everybody supports the message. Baytex does a lot of great work in the area. AIM Transport; they are (very) supportive of local workers; they help us local guys out. They’re great to us, as owner/operators.”
‘Canada Action’ is a volunteer-led grassroots movement that encourages Canadians to take action and work together in support of the natural resources sector. On their website it’s written, “We believe it’s critical to educate Canadians about the social and economic benefits provided by the resource sector and industry’s commitment to world-class environmental stewardship.
“We’re strong supporters of Canada’s oil sands and the resource sector generally because we know how important these industries are to Canada’s present and future prosperity.”
