As projections for electricity demand rise across Canada, energy storage is increasingly central to conversations related to grid reliability and affordability, industrial growth and economic competitiveness.
The ENERGY STORAGE CANADA (ESC) Conference 2026, The Storage Advantage, hosted by Energy Storage Canada, marks a pivotal moment for the sector. Bringing together policymakers, utilities, developers, investors, Indigenous partners, and technology leaders, the eleventh iteration of Canada’s only national energy storage-exclusive event, will examine how Canada can scale energy storage deployment to support and keep pace with the country’s evolving electricity system.
Globally, Energy storage development has set new records for deployment consecutively since 2014 and in 2025, the industry exceeded 100 gigawatts of annual additions (excluding pumped hydro) for the first time, up 48% from 2024. It only took four years for energy storage to increase annual additions to more than 100 gigawatts from 10 gigawatts, which captures the incredible momentum of the industry at a global scale.
At the same time, the Energy Storage Canadian Market Outlook, a national market outlook report commissioned by Energy Storage Canada and prepared by Power Advisory, projects Canada could require between 8 and 12 GW of energy storage capacity by 2035 to support electrification, reliability, and emissions reduction goals.
As provincial electricity markets continue modernizing and planning new infrastructure to meet expected demand, energy storage is taking on the role of essential infrastructure supporting economic growth, manufacturing opportunities, grid resiliency, and long-term energy security.
The ENERGY STORAGE CANADA (ESC) Conference 2026 will explore the policy, market, infrastructure, and investment conditions shaping that future, while offering journalists and industry publications direct access to many of the organizations and decision-makers driving Canada’s energy transition.
The conference takes place September 22 to 23, 2026, at Exhibition Place in Toronto.
