Wildfires in Alberta Die Down as Rain Storm Moves Into Region

Wildfires that erupted on Friday and Saturday in the Canadian oil sands-producing region of Lac la Biche in Alberta have been reclassified as being held or under control, according to Alberta Wildfire.

• Wildfire danger level is now “moderate” with area expected to see heavy rainfall over the next few days
• Out-of-control fires that broke out on Friday and Saturday were within 20km of about half a million barrels a day of oil production sites operated by companies including ConocoPhillips, Cenovus Energy and Canadian Natural Resources
• Operations at ConocoPhillips Surmont oil sands weren’t affected by wildfire activity, co. spokesperson Dennis Nuss said in a Saturday email
