Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week:
Inflation
Statistics Canada will release its April reading for inflation on Tuesday when it publishes its consumer price index for the month. The annual rate of inflation rose to 2.4 per cent in March as gas prices soared due to the war in the Middle East.
Smith keynote

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith is to give the keynote address at an event held by the Calgary Chamber of Commerce on Thursday morning. Smith and Prime Minister Mark Carney announced a deal last week on the industrial carbon price. A carbon price plan was one of several steps agreed to by the two governments in a memorandum of understanding last year in order to build a bitumen pipeline to the West Coast.
Lightspeed results
Lightspeed Commerce Inc. will report its fourth-quarter and full-year results before markets open on Thursday. The company recently announced a deal to sell its Upserve hospitality business in the U.S. to Skyview Equity as part of its move to streamline its portfolio and concentrate on its core growth areas, including retail in North America and hospitality in Europe.
CAE results
CAE Inc. will report its fourth-quarter and full-year results after markets close on Thursday followed by a conference call on Friday morning. The flight simulator announced earlier this month that it’s seeking strategic alternatives for Flightscape, its aviation software business, including a possible sale.
Retail sales
Statistics Canada will release its retail trade figures for March on Friday. The agency said last month that its early estimate for the month suggested a gain in retail sales of 0.6 per cent in March. Retail sales in February were up 0.7 per cent at $72.1 billion.
