Edmonton Exchanger’s Pipe Fabrication Division delivers high-quality mechanical piping systems built to ASME and client specifications, supported by a deep library of more than 1,000 weld procedures and extensive experience with Alberta’s most demanding materials and service classes. From carbon steel and stainless steel to low- and high-alloy materials, the division is equipped to fabricate and install complex piping systems for maintenance, turnaround, and capital projects.
Comprehensive Certifications and Welding Expertise
Edmonton Exchanger is fully certified to construct, repair, and alter ASME B31.1 Power Piping and ASME B31.3 Process Piping in both shop and field environments. Additional ABSA certifications enable the company to build and modify ASME B31.1 Boiler External Piping and manufacture or alter Category A, B, C, D, E, and H fittings in accordance with CSA B51.
The company is also certified by the Canadian Welding Bureau to CSA W47.1 for structural welding. Its welders, tested through ABSA, are experienced across a wide range of materials and service conditions.
Advanced TIP TIG welding technology further enhances productivity and quality. The system improves weld-pool fluidity, minimizes porosity, and delivers superior consistency across carbon steel, stainless steel, and overlay applications. With overhead cranes up to 10 tons and a wide range of positioners, the shop can efficiently handle butt welds, reducers, tees, tube sheets, and complex configurations.

CRN Capabilities and Custom Engineering Support
Edmonton Exchanger maintains one of Canada’s most comprehensive CRNs for valve auxiliary connection modifications. The registration covers a broad range of materials—including carbon steel, chrome alloys, stainless steel, duplex stainless, Monel, and Inconel—and applies to NPS 2” and larger valves from CL150 through CL2500. The CRN is registered in Alberta and is expanding nationally.
The company also designs and manufactures custom fittings and valve modifications requiring new CRNs. Its in-house engineering and drafting teams ensure compliance, provide rapid turnaround, and maintain close alignment with ABSA requirements.
Additional CRN-supported products include spectacle blinds, zero-energy blinds, alky-service vented blanks, and other specialty items requiring welded valves or gusseting.
A Process Built to Eliminate Rework
Edmonton Exchanger’s pipe fabrication workflow is specifically designed to reduce field rework and accelerate project schedules. Field Services personnel can measure and verify piping before fabrication begins, ensuring dimensional accuracy and reducing installation challenges.
During bidding, the team proactively resolves ISO drawing discrepancies, clarifies material requirements, and confirms constructability. Once awarded, ISO drawings are converted into shop fabrication drawings and sent to the field for review and markups.
In-house drafting software tracks welders, NDE requirements, heat numbers, weld procedures, and drawing revisions—enabling real-time updates as project scopes evolve. Each fabricated spool is tagged with drawing numbers, ISO references, and project identifiers for easy tracking in the field.
Quality Control and Testing
Edmonton Exchanger’s quality control team, certified through CWB and CGSB, performs LPI, MPI, Ferrite testing, hardness testing, PMI, and UT. Radiography is the only NDE service subcontracted.
All spools undergo shop verification of orientations and dimensions before shipping. Materials are sourced through approved manufacturers and reputable suppliers. Flange faces are protected with covers, and all fabricated components are inspected for compliance with ASME codes and jurisdictional requirements.
Hydro-testing is performed in-house, and the company offers field support for installation, system start-up, and ongoing maintenance.
Materials Management and Turnaround Performance
With more than 1,000 weld procedures and extensive material storage, Edmonton Exchanger is well-positioned for rapid-response maintenance and turnaround work. The company has delivered more than 100 piping jobs within a single turnaround season, supplying both fabrication and field materials across more than 20 different material and service classes.
A 12,000-square-foot warehouse and a six-acre yard ensure ample space for storing inventory and completed spools. The company’s material management system maintains traceability, monitors NDE percentages, and provides accurate picking and staging.
