Geothermal Energy Advocate Stephen Lindop Passes Away

These translations are done via Google Translate

Stephen Lindop, former mayor of historic oil town Devon Alberta, passed away March 28. An “out of the box” thinker about Alberta’s energy future, the former high school principal began looking at different ways of keeping Alberta in the energy business after oil prices collapsed in 2014. As Devon’s mayor he helped have solar panels installed on the roof of the community centre in 2015. Two years later, Devon collaborated with Precision Drilling, AltaCorp Financial and Alberta Geothermal to explore the potential of using the subsurface heat from existing oil and gas wellbores as a source of geothermal energy.

Lindop later joined Eavor™, an Alberta company, which had developed a novel method of using subsurface heat to create water hot enough to generate electricity or be used for structural heating, as Vice-President of Business Development. In this capacity Lindop employed his expertise in politics, expediting intra-governmental projects and infrastructure development to help open many doors for Eavor™ as the company pushed forward with its plan to use Alberta’s existing well drilling expertise, equipment, infrastructure and knowledge to bring a new form of energy to surface.
