Ways petroleum keeps us warm in the winter

The winter in Canada can be really cold and very snowy, yet indoors our homes are filled with a great deal of warmth and light! We aren’t always cognizant of just how important natural resources are in our daily lives, especially when it comes to providing for some of the basic needs of our families like shelter, food and clothing.

With that in mind, here’s a list of products that are made with oil and gas or require such as an input to operate. These products help keep us warm, safe and able to survive during winter. The World Needs Oil & Gas for DecadesOil and gas products are everywhere in the world

To continue, during winter time we also depend on the logistics and supply chains that ensure we have groceries in the stores and the delivery of goods is available, also made possible thanks to oil and gas.

Additionally, it will be extremely challenging to replace some of the components made using oil and gas in many of the products that keep us warm during winter. Okay, sure, you can probably get blankets, pillows and furniture made entirely from wood and cloth, but even then those products are for the most part manufactured by machines that are made possible thanks to oil and gas. The emergence of hybrid materials which are also created using oil has made these household items even more comfy and durable than ever before, despite them being not necessarily affordable for everyone to buy.

The world can certainly move towards renewables for electricity production – like Canada has and done an exceptional job of over the past few decades – but there’s no way we’re going to be able to replace the volume of plastic (made with oil and gas) we use with current technology anytime soon. With wind and solar we still also need backup base load power, of which natural gas is a reliable source.

The reality is that oil and gas based products are all around us and will likely remain a fundamental building block of our modern lives for a long tome to come – maybe even forever. We should prefer that as much of these natural resources as possible are produced right here at home in Canada. After all, of the world’s top oil and gas reserve holders, producers, and exporters, we are a leader on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) metrics, and we should be proud!

Let’s Be Thankful for Oil & Gas!

Canadians across the country rely on oil and gas to keep us warm during the winter. These products provide us with the ability to enjoy the modern lifestyles we are used to in one of the coldest countries on the planet.

We should all be thankful for the convenience and comfort that these petroleum products allow us to have. Can you imagine going without them all? We would rather not!
