CAODC announces the introduction of a Directional Drilling Division

PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate Release: January 26, 2021

The Canadian Association of Oilwell Drilling Contractors (CAODC) is excited to announce the introduction of a new Directional Drilling Division consisting of seven directional drilling companies:

  1. Cathedral Energy Services
  2. Clear Directional Drilling Solutions Ltd.
  3. Compass Directional Services Ltd.
  4. Ensign Directional
  5. Millennium Directional Drilling Services Ltd.
  6. Optimax Drilling Solutions Inc.
  7. Precision Directional Services

CAODC’s Directional Drilling Division is the first new division for the Association since Offshore Members were introduced in 1980. It is also the first of several anticipated new divisions comprised of leaders in energy services; companies and people who understand the importance of addressing the challenges facing the Canadian oil and gas industry in the most effective way possible.

“Our industry is the biggest economic driver in the country,” says CAODC CEO Mark A. Scholz, “and CAODC is expanding its membership at a crucial time. We can create a future filled with good jobs and clean energy for Canadians from all corners of the country, but the steps we take now are critical, and we need everyone at the table.”

Clear Directional Drilling Solutions Ltd. President, Jerry Raduy, feels the new division will provide value for all stakeholders, particularly customers. “CAODC membership really lends credibility for the specialty work we do to help exploration and production companies, and is a step change to be even more efficient in how we operate.”

Initial reaction to CAODC’s membership has been well received throughout the industry:

“The hard work of CAODC’s members has helped drive Canada’s energy sector to the heights of its success and allowed the industry to remain resilient in the face of severe adversity. CAODC’s expertise – bolstered by this new division – will be vitally important in helping meet post-pandemic global demand and ensuring Alberta leverages all opportunities to develop traditional and emerging energy sources.”
— Hon. Sonya Savage, Alberta Government, Minister of Energy

“With world leading environmental, social and governance standards, Canada can and should have a major role in providing ethically and responsibly produced oil and natural gas to the world. Through Canadian ingenuity, our sector has leveraged technology and continuously improved our operations to deliver outstanding and meaningful results with much more to come. Canada is well positioned to build upon these successes and we must continue to work together to ensure the long-term sustainability of the energy sector for the benefit of all Canadians. We applaud CAODC’s membership expansion, and look forward to working with them to ensure a strong future for our industry.”
— Tim McKay, President, Canadian Natural Resources Limited

“Canada has an opportunity to become the world’s premium provider of responsible energy – and we are already very close to that objective. We must work together to build upon our environment successes that benefit all Canadians. CAODC is an important part of our energy future, and I’m delighted to see their influence growing as they expand their membership in the energy services sector.”
— Mark Little, Suncor, President & CEO

“At this critical point in time, it is imperative Canada’s energy industry work collaboratively to further define its role as a world leader. The CAODC is proactively shaping this conversation, and we commend them for strengthening their influence through a membership expansion. This important initiative will help bring our industry closer together, bring new ideas forward, and help protect Canada’s energy future.”
— Dave Humphreys, Vice-President, Operations, Birchcliff Energy

CAODC welcomes each new member of the Directional Drilling division. “These companies are leaders who are focused on building the best industry possible,” says Scholz. “If we do this well, we have a chance to help a lot of Canadians recover from difficult times.”

In the coming months, the Association plans to continue to explore additional membership expansion opportunities.
