Governmental Agencies and End Users have been continually looking to reduce the emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) within the process industry for more than 30 years. Valve stem packing leakage is a significant contributor to leakage of VOCs. While each End User may have their own leakage standards, in North America, the EPA (environmental protection agency) has recently enhanced its Method 21 regarding Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) to move End User to within compliance, as they have for many years been operating under exemptions called “consent decrees”, allowing them to be out of compliance while working on the issues.
The EPA’s leakage of VOC requirement is set at 100ppm or less leakage guaranteed for 5 Years. TESCOM Anderson Greenwood Instrument products meet this requirement starting in the early ‘90s with the offering of the “E” series bonnet and packing option. To clarify, the leakage amount measured at inspection could be no more than 100ppm, if found above 100ppm the packing adjustment must be able to bring leakage back below the 100ppm.
In Summary
The “E” series low emissions bonnet option utilized on Hand Valves, Gauge Valves, Manifolds and Primary Isolation solves the users need to come into compliance with Regulatory requirement and the first step toward environmental control of Volatile Organic Compounds emissions in the Measurement Device Installations.
