The Canadian Energy Pipeline Association (CEPA) welcomes today’s Supreme Court of Canada decision to dismiss the appeal challenging the federal government’s re-approval of the Trans Mountain Expansion Project (TMEP). The ruling reinforces the earlier unanimous decision by the Federal Court of Appeal. The pipeline has satisfied an unprecedented number of regulatory requirements, and will be constructed and operated according to world-leading safety and technology standards.
Major infrastructure projects like TMEP are critical for Canada’s economic recovery following the outbreak of COVID-19. With billions of dollars of shovel-ready projects, Canada’s transmission pipeline industry offers significant growth and employment opportunities across the country under the right legal and regulatory conditions.
Today’s court decision provides the necessary clarity and certainty for major projects in Canada to proceed – and is essential for investor confidence. We look forward to TMEP and other major pipelines completing construction as soon and safely as possible.
