Navigating investor expectations for ESG – KPMG

The focus on companies’ environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance from the investor community is increasing. This trend is expected to accelerate as pressing social and environmental issues intensify, disrupting economic activity and society at large.

With increasing information demands on companies, it is crucial to understand the ESG focus from investors, their information requirements and the best approach to explain your ESG performance and shape your ESG messaging to investors. ESG reporting will be critical in determining how your organization will emerge in the COVID-19 economic recovery, as it will impact your access to and cost of capital.

Our recently hosted webcast included a deep dive on investor perspectives on ESG from Alicia Cahill Ha, Investor Relations Advisor with KPMG Makinson Cowell. This was followed by a panel discussion providing investor and corporate views on the topic, focusing on the importance of ESG reporting for the Canadian oil and gas industry. Panelists included Andy Kochar (Vice President, Portfolio Manager & Head of Global Credit, AGF Investments), Brian Newmarch (Vice President, Capital Markets & Stakeholder Engagement, Seven Generations Energy) and Chris Seasons (Vice-Chair & Director, ARC Financial).
