The rig count in Western Canada increased by 8 this week to 220, according to data collected by Baker Hughes for the week ending September 22th.
Last year at this time, only 138 rigs were active.
From one week ago, Alberta rig counts increased to 144 from 141, the Saskatchewan rig count increased to 44 from 43, and The B.C. rig count increased to 26 from 24. 2 new offshore rigs in Newfound Land bring it to an increase of 8.
Oil drilling increased to 122 rigs from 112 rigs; Gas rigs decreased 98 from 100 rigs.
