Indigenous peoples have much to teach about understanding and living in harmony with the spirit of the land. As stewards of Mother Earth they are raised and taught how to honor and respect the spirit of the land before resource development occurs. When the earth, air, water, and fire are celebrated in gratitude for the gifts it can bestow, it returns the gratitude with respect in abundance and prosperity.

It is through that expression of respect and gratitude – learned through land-based teachings – that the four elements remain healthy, balanced and in harmony with natural law. These are timeless learnings, passed down over generations, reminding us of the fact that should one of these four elements be extinguished, humanity as we know will cease to exist.

At Certus Oil and Gas, we have been privileged to learn how through ceremony prior to each well we spud we recognize, with humility, the spirit of the land and the blessings it permits us to access. That recognition through ceremony calls us to understand we are undertaking a multi-generational commitment to sustainable resource development. We then remain committed to responsible resource development built on the ancient teachings but still the relevant belief of guarding the land’s health and wellness and being thankful for the gifts it permits us to access. That is true sustainability.
