Atlantic Canada is facing growing electricity demand from electrification, economic development, housing growth, and emerging industries. At the same time, each province operates its own electricity system, plans independently, and faces similar affordability, reliability, and infrastructure challenges.
Leaders across the region are asking whether there is a better way to plan for the future together. That question helped drive the launch of the Atlantic Electricity Cooperation Initiative, a new effort focused on advancing electrification across Atlantic Canada’s electricity systems through public awareness, rigorous modeling, policy work, and regional collaboration.
What is the Atlantic Electricity Cooperation Initiative?
A regional initiative supported by the Transition Accelerator aims to help Atlantic Canadians better understand how greater cooperation across provincial electricity systems could improve affordability, reliability, and economic competitiveness while supporting a cleaner energy future.
The initiative is designed to help the public and decision-makers understand the benefits and implications of greater electricity system integration.
The Atlantica Centre for Energy is one of several partner organizations reflecting its commitment to supporting informed discussions about the region’s energy future.
Over the coming months, the Atlantic Electricity Cooperation Initiative will release regional electricity modeling and launch a public awareness campaign aimed at helping Atlantic Canadians better understand the opportunities and challenges facing the region’s electricity future.
As discussions about energy continue to evolve, the initiative represents another step in a broader regional conversation about how Atlantic Canada can work together to power its future.
