When we think about bold nation-building projects that can help secure Canada’s economic future, a new pipeline that would export Canadian-made oil to energy-hungry markets abroad is a great place to start.

Right now, many countries worldwide are seeking reliable energy suppliers. A new Canadian pipeline stands uniquely positioned to deliver — for our trading partners, and for every Canadian who relies on the revenues generated by such projects to pay for our healthcare, education, and other critical public programs.

What should this new pipeline in Canada be called? Above all else, it is a project that would benefit Canadian families across the country. Its construction would stand as a symbol of Canada’s determination, resilience, and unity in the face of a challenging relationship with our largest trading partner, one that has already resulted in serious economic hardship here at home. The pipeline would show that during tough times, Canadians can come together to get big things built again, like we did in our past with the Canadian Pacific Railway, Trans-Canada Highway, and the St. Lawrence Seaway.

We’re calling it the “Canada Connects Pipeline (CCX).” It would do more than move Canadian-made energy; it would connect communities, anchor prosperity, and sustain economic opportunity for generations to come.

Canada’s oil and natural gas sector is projected to generate $1.1 trillion in public revenues between 2000 and 2032 — funds that support doctors, nurses, teachers, infrastructure, and the everyday services we too often take for granted. A new pipeline that would export Canadian-made oil to Asia and elsewhere would no doubt contribute immensely — to the tune of several billion dollars annually — to funding the various social programs that support our standard of living nationwide.

All Canadians should know that global oil demand is growing. One recent industry outlook expects oil consumption worldwide to reach 105 million barrels per day by 2050, up from about 100 million bpd in 2024. By building the Canada Connects Pipeline, Canadians could play an instrumental role in providing the reliable, democratically produced oil the world needs — while benefitting our families here at home.

Over the past few years, several of Canada’s key partners — Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, and many across Europe — have said that they would buy more Canadian-made energy if it were made available. Furthermore, with the operation of the Trans Mountain Expansion, we have seen direct oil exports from Canada to Asia increase, while re-exports of Canadian oil from the United States have decreased, and the price we receive for our energy exports has dramatically improved.

That’s a win-win-win for Canadians.

In a world focused on energy security, any new oil pipeline project is Canada’s opportunity to lead, rather than watch others set the pace.

Earlier this year, British Columbia Premier David Eby put it best: “If you’re not buying oil and gas from Canada and British Columbia, the alternative is Venezuela,” when speaking about U.S. tariffs.

The Premier is 100% correct. If Canada doesn’t step up, other producers stand to benefit while Canadians forego the socio-economic opportunities that come with supplying more of our oil to the world. After all, oil and natural gas is Canada’s largest export, helping to “pay the bills” for everything we have to import, as many economists have said in the past.

Canada’s Trans Mountain Expansion has already shown the immense benefits of such projects. By reducing the price differential between Western Canadian Select (WCS) and West Texas Intermediate (WTI), we’ve secured tens of billions of dollars in additional value for Canadians from our oil exports.

The CCX pipeline would build on this legacy. It would connect reliable Canadian-made energy to markets abroad, help us further diversify away from the U.S., and allow us to become more economically independent in the process. It would benefit all Canadians, from coast to coast to coast.

This potential project is more than infrastructure—it’s a nation-building legacy. The Canada Connects Pipeline will bring Canadians together, reinforce our economic foundation, and give future generations a project to be proud of.

Now is the time to stand behind energy that brings us together. CCX is built for today, and it will be strong for tomorrow.
