The inextricable link between energy and prosperity cannot be ignored.

“We do not think clearly about energy. We need to carefully weigh the benefits and the side effects- factoring in the negative and positive climate side effects of fossil fuels with precision.”

After a weekend that saw ice storms creating power outages across Ontario, resulting in a state of emergency declared in Orillia and Peterborough with power outages from Owen Sound to Brockville. Could there be a better time to talk about energy policy issues and solutions with engaged women in Ontario, alongside women executives from the energy sector who are leading Canadian energy, power and utility companies?

The Canada Powered by Women Toronto Summit April 29.2025 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre could not be more timely and relevant to Ontarians. It will be the day after the Federal election and many energy, economy and prosperity issues will be top of mind.

The Summit is entitled: “Powering prosperity: Shaping a sustainable energy future”. It is the first of three events envisaged by Canada Powered by Women (CPW), an organization founded to foster economic growth and find common ground solutions to shape Canada’s future and participate in the national energy transformation conversation.

The second signature event is in Vancouver on May 6.2025 with a third signature event in Calgary on May 9, 2025.

The Toronto Summit Event features speaker, Sue Riddell Rose – President & CEO, Rubellite Energy and Founder & Board Chair of CPW – Michele Harradence – EVP & President, Enbridge Gas – Tracey Bodnarchuk, Founder & CEO CPW, – Jana Mosley, President & CEO of Toronto Hydro – Shelley Powell, SVP – Operational Improvement & Support Services, Suncor – Becky Penrice – EVP, Corporate Services, ATCO, and Paige Schoenfeld SVP – Consumer Insights, Leger with more speakers to be announced shortly.

As CEO Tracey Bodarchuk stated recently on social media:

“For years, energy projects in Canada have faced mounting delays, rising costs, and regulatory hurdles, and the consequences are adding up. Companies are backing out. Investment is going elsewhere. And families are feeling it in rising costs. This issue is timely and urgent. Canada is losing ground to countries like the U.S., which have moved faster to build and export energy. For engaged women, the implications are close to home: affordable energy, stable jobs, and long-term prosperity.”

A way to get to solutions: a cross-country suite of three events with interactive sessions to discuss energy policy and the effects on the lives of everyday women and the Canadian economy, with a presentation of brand-new national research from CPW. The event will also include an interactive workshop, facilitated by Deloitte focused on insights from engaged women, to be distilled into a national report for policymakers to refer to when making fundamental decisions about the future of Canada’s economy, energy, and resources. CPW intends to present the perspectives, experiences, viewpoints directly to governments with a very strong ask that they consider them when they’re putting together energy policy and thinking about energy transformation and economic prosperity in Canada. A dynamic panel discussion will follow the workshop between the speakers mentioned above around key themes with a balance of industry perspectives and dedicated time for audience participation.

CPW research shows engaged women are paying close attention to how energy policies affect their daily lives – 85 percent say energy costs impact their standard of living, and 77 percent support the development and export of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to help provide energy security and to generate revenue for Canada.

The CPW Toronto Summit kicks off the series and will offer women a rich experience for networking and interaction resulting in calls to action, key takeaways, next steps for advocacy and inspiration for continued engagement. It will be a multi-layered experience that should not be missed.
