FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Calgary, AB – The Indigenous Resource Network (IRN) is proud to announce John Desjarlais, Nehinaw Métis from Cumberland House, Sk., as its new Executive Director. IRN’s Board of Directors engaged and approved John to become the Executive Director on Tuesday March 14, and with this transition, Shawn McDonald was appointed the new Board Chair, and will replace John along with appointing Boomer Desjarlais as the new Vice-Chair.

“I am excited to be transitioning from the Board and governance to executive director responsible for operations. I have been with IRN since its creation, and it is something that I feel is very important. I have been a lifelong advocate for Indigenous involvement in responsible resource development and look forward to working with our team to make further progress.”

John has a significant background in senior business leader positions serving as president of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS), CEO of a first nation economic development company, senior engineering and radiation/safety management in mining and industrial operations, and most recently as General Manager of an industrial contracting and construction company.

John’s educational background involves engineering, a Master of Business Administration, certificates in governance and communication, and is completing a master’s degree in Governance and Entrepreneurship in Northern and Indigenous Areas.

IRN’s focus has always been responsible resource development and advancing the interests of our members and supporters who consist of close to 1,000 Indigenous workers and supporters of resource development. “We advocate on their behalf and their concerns are our top priority.”
