Safely and Efficiently Eliminates Nearly All Emissions Associated with Voluntary Flaring and Venting
Methane emissions are a normal part of operations for energy companies. Every time a pig trap opens or a crew performs a line stop, whenever there’s voluntary flaring or venting, emissions are released into the air.
The volume of emissions is related, of course, to the total time needed for venting. And although that depends on a number of variables, even an operation as simple as replacing a filter could require 10 minutes of venting first. For larger projects, like isolating a transmission pipeline for maintenance, the venting process can take days — and the associated methane emissions can easily run into the hundreds of tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e). With methane having more than 80 times the warming power of CO2 over the first two decades after it reaches the atmosphere, calling this a serious issue is an understatement.
Fortunately, there is a proven way to help pipeline operators capture voluntary methane emissions and achieve their ESG goals, and it’s coming to Canada following more than two years of field success in the U.S.
The ReCAP™ Emissions Recovery System from Houston, Texas-based energy solutions provider WeldFit reduces methane emissions by up to 99.99% compared to venting or flaring. That figure has been verified at more than 200 job sites all across America. So far, ReCAP technology has recaptured more than 750,000,000 standard cubic feet (SCF) of methane, and that total is growing each day.
ReCAP technology, which is being rolled out across Canada, enables pipeline operators to reduce methane emissions safely, easily, and effectively.
“Canadian energy operators are taking the necessary steps to reduce methane emissions, such as leak detection, tax incentives, carbon capture, and sequestering,” said Adam Murray, vice president, WeldFit Performance Products. “These actions demonstrate a strong commitment to protecting our environment and creating a better future for generations. WeldFit’s ReCAP emissions recovery technology will be an effective and invaluable tool in achieving these goals while also contributing positively to pipeline operators’ economics.”
Faster Performance, Less Downtime
The three-step ReCAP process recovers methane during pipeline depressurization operations, recompresses it, then discharges into an adjacent pressurized system. WeldFit’s patent-pending Straight-Line™ performance ensures that ReCAP produces a near constant and predictable depressurization from start to finish, providing a significant time-saving advantage.
Straight-Line capabilities overcome a challenge other gas recapture systems struggle with: because they can’t recover gas at a constant rate across pressure differentials, either speed or recovery rates are sacrificed, meaning downtime increases.
“Our customers are willing to recover emissions responsibly, but they don’t want it to take longer than it should because that just adds unnecessary cost to the project,” Murray said.

The Banff Pipeline Workshop
WELDFIT will be showcasing ReCAP at the 2023 Banff Pipeline Workshop Energy Security – April 3 – 6, 2023.
The Banff Pipeline Workshop is an interactive forum that brings pipeline industry members, regulators, academics, and vendors together to share their knowledge and experience and exchange ideas on how best to address challenges the industry faces. The outcomes are a better understanding of issues and technology resulting in increased motivation, innovation, and creativity as we move forward.
If you are attending, please visit us at the 2023 Banff Pipeline Workshop!
