Following the Paris climate agreement, the decarbonization of the energy and industrial sectors is becoming increasingly important. One of the most significant measure to achieve the climate targets is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) is an essential part of the decarbonization strategy for unavoidable emissions and as retrofit solution for existing CO2 emitting processes.
Different processes are described to separate CO2 from emission sources, i.e. from power or waste incineration plants, oil and gas extraction facilities and other emitting industries such as cement plants. There are two possible paths for the captured CO2: either utilization as non-fossil feedstock after chemical conversion or permanent geological storage.
Currently the deployment of CCUS projects is increasing in an exponential way worldwide. A huge number of projects are under construction or development. This trend is enhanced in specific countries by new fundings and tax/credit systems.
Along the CCUS value chain, measuring techniques help to control the efficiency of the capture processes, the transport of CO2 as well as further accounting steps. With Westech Industrial and SICK Ltd’s experience of over 10 years in pilot or commercial scale projects our solutions fit for most of the CCUS applications with gas analyzers or flow metering systems.
