Calgary’s newly elected Mayor Jyoti Gondek says her first order of business is to declare a ‘climate emergency’ for the City of Calgary.
In an interview with Ryan Jespersen from Edmonton, Gondek says the city has been presented with various documents about climate emergency in the past and has had more than enough time to review them. Now it’s time to move forward and make the claim.
The declaration, according to Gondek, would help capital flow in once Calgary makes a bold move like that.
Gondek went on to say it’s time to move past the output of oil and gas and instead start talking about the processes again. It’s time for Calgary to be seen as a leader in a transitioning economy and show the world that with innovation and technology, Calgary can come up with sustainable, greener, cleaner solutions for all business sectors.
She added “let’s not get hung up on what we’re producing but more on ways we get there”.
Comments on Calgary’s climate emergency start at the 1:00 mark.
