CALGARY, AB (October 1, 2018) – The Petroleum Services Association of Canada (PSAC) announces the resignation of interim President and CEO Tom Whalen, effective November 2, 2018. PSAC will intensify the search for a new President and CEO with a decision to be made within weeks.

The petroleum services, supply and manufacturing sectors are looking forward to more certain times following the past four challenging years for industry. This road ahead will require a continued strong voice for the sector to help navigate the issues and opportunities impacting PSAC Members collectively. “We are looking for a transformational leader that will be able to steer the Association and the industry on a new path that will bring change to our industry through collaboration by building a new brand for Canadian Energy,” says Scott Van Vliet, Chair of PSAC, and CEO & Founder of Environmental Refuelling Systems Inc.

Whalen reflects on his time with PSAC. “While I’ve only been in the role a few months, it’s been a very rewarding experience during a very turbulent time for our industry. In the short time that I’ve been in the role, we’ve dealt with many issues on behalf of our members, not the least of which have been the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion blunder, the implementation of U.S. tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum followed shortly thereafter by the execution of the Canadian tariff countermeasures and still pending safeguard measures. On top of all that we have Bill C 69 looming over the resource sector. This pending new legislation, governing environmental impact assessments threatens to create huge barriers to complete any future energy infrastructure project in Canada. We still have so much more to do, to support our industry,” says Whalen.

The Board of Directors of PSAC would like to thank Tom for stepping into the interim role with such short notice and wish him all the best in his new role back in the service industry.

The Board of Directors looks forward to a new and exciting chapter for the Association and asks that any interested candidates for the President and CEO of PSAC notify Optimum Talent who has been retained for the search. To request a profile of the position with complete confidentiality please contact Scott Doupe – sdoupe@optimumtalent.com or visit their website at www.optimumtalent.com.

The Petroleum Services Association of Canada is the national trade association representing the service, supply and manufacturing sectors within the upstream petroleum industry. As the voice of the sector, PSAC advocates for its members to enable the continued innovation, technological advancement and in-the-field experience they supply to Canada’s energy explorers and producers, helping to increase efficiency, improve safety and protect the environment.
