20th Annual Big Guns Stampede Breakfast – July 10th, 2018
Even though the energy industry in Alberta is still in recovery mode, the 20th Annual Big Guns Stampede Breakfast, which was held this year on July 10th in Calgary, was, by all accounts a great success. The SOLD OUT event saw oil & gas companies as well as service companies from around Western Canada come together at the Cowboys Casino Legendary Stampede tent. An estimated 4,000 people attended this year’s breakfast.
“It’s an indication from all those attending that networking and meeting new prospects is as important as ever, says Duncan McPhedran, President of Big Guns Energy Services and one of the first sponsors of the breakfast 20 years ago. “It’s the largest event of its kind where producers and services companies are under the same roof, or in this case, tent. This year’s event has grown from 14 sponsors in 2016 to over 23 sponsors in 2018. It’s great that so many sponsors have come on board to not only support the industry, but support local charities as well. I can tell you we are already planning for 2019 and have even more ideas in the works.”

This year’s breakfast was highlighted by three guest speakers. The Hon. Jason Kenney, Leader of the United Conservative Party of Alberta and Official Opposition to the Alberta government, Chief Lee Crowchild of the Tsuut’ina Nation and Cody Battershill, spokesperson for Canada Action. “The breakfast has grown to a point where it is also a platform for guests such as the ones we had this year to show their support for the industry. The core of this event is still a fun, networking event but there is no doubt we want to show people our industry is an integral part of the economy and we develop our resources as responsibly as anyone in the world”, says Blake Walliser, President of Codeco Consulting.
During the breakfast, Darryl Fushtey, who passed away from a traffic accident in March, 2018, was also honored for his key role in organizing past Big Guns breakfasts, including the 2018 version as well. “The breakfast would not be where it is today without all Darryl’s hard work and we plan to keep making it better and better every year on his behalf. I also want to thank all the sponsors and volunteers from the SAIT Student Petroleum Society for their support.” added Walliser.
The 21st Big Guns Stampede Breakfast will be held July 9, 2019
