Update of Canadian Retaliatory Tariff Remission
On April 16, 2025, Enserva provided an update on our engagement with the federal government to support tariff remission for key imported inputs used across the energy services, supply, and manufacturing sector – including items such as sand, drill bits, and coiled tubing. This effort aimed to reduce cost pressures on member operations and support domestic competitiveness.
Update
The Government of Canada recently issued Order in Council 2025-0466, along with CBSA Customs Notice 25-19, establishing a framework for time-limited tariff remission on certain U.S.-origin goods. These measures are intended to provide short-term relief to Canadian businesses affected by retaliatory tariffs and to support supply chain adjustments:
This applies to goods imported between March 4 and October 15, 2025. The remission may be claimed at the time of importation or retroactively for tariffs already paid. The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) will administer claims, and further guidance on the process is outlined in Customs Notice 25-19.
Next Steps
Enserva is currently engaging with officials at Finance Canada to clarify:
- The interpretation and scope of eligibility under Section 3
- The process for applying/determining eligibility for remission under Section 3
- How this may apply to energy services, supply, and manufacturng activities, including common goods imported by members for use in larger industrial processes
