* WCS for October delivery in Hardisty, Alberta, settled at $13.85 a barrel below WTI, according to brokerage CalRock, having settled at $13.65 a barrel under the benchmark on Wednesday.
* Canadian heavy crude prices have traded in a narrow range between $13.50 and $14.00 a barrel below benchmark U.S. crude so far this month.
* Global oil prices rose over 2% as producers assessed the impact on output in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico after Hurricane Francine tore through offshore oil-producing areas before being downgraded to a tropical storm.
