Last year crushed global recorded temperature records, but this year has started off hotter. The El Niño event beginning last year continues to have a big impact on global temperatures. One potential source of reprieve: there is now a 77 percent chance of a La Niña event this year, according to Axios, which could help bring down temperatures later in the year.
