WHO WE ARE

FlareTech is an international provider of custom, turnkey flaring and combustion systems for almost every application. With over 30 years of industry experience, FlareTech’s staff are experts at developing and delivering high quality, innovative, efficient products at competitive prices.

FlareTech is skilled and experienced in pilot technology applications for utility, air-assisted, and fuel gas-assisted flares. Our fully retractable pilot systems can be designed for new applications and retrofits in oil & gas operations. All FlareTech pilots meet or exceed the minimum requirements of applicable API, ASME and CSA standards, as well as jurisdictional regulations. Years of testing and field operations have confirmed that FlareTech’s pilot systems deliver superior, reliable, hassle-free performance in extreme weather conditions.

PREMIER PILOT DESIGN

FlareTech’s Premier Pilot design boasts a unique dual-nozzle tip. While FlareTech’s economical single-nozzle pilot system is an excellent performer on its own, FlareTech’s Premier dual-nozzle design provides superior benefits. In terms of flame stability, reliability, redundancy, and overall cost savings, the FlareTech dual-nozzle design remains unmatched in the industry. Some of the benefits include:

Stability

  • While the FlareTech single-nozzle pilot is inherently very stable, the dual-nozzle pilot provides enhanced stability. The closely spaced nozzle configuration makes it extremely difficult for high winds to extinguish the pilot, as the flame from one nozzle will always keep the other nozzle ignited.

Reliability & Redundancy

  • The dual-nozzle system is designed such that both nozzles and their thermocouples will never fail at the same time. The pilot’s alarms are set up as a voting system; if one nozzle or thermocouple fails, the system issues a service alarm instead of a full system alarm that could trigger a shutdown. The service alarm indicates that the pilot requires repair, but a functional nozzle remains in service.

Standards & Specifications

  • The dual-nozzle pilot design credits the customer for having 2 monitored pilots in 1 stand-alone package. This makes it simpler and more affordable to meet the minimum number of pilots required by API 537 and many customers’ flare stack specifications.

Cost Savings – Initial

  • The dual nozzle’s “2 pilots in 1” design reduces initial capital costs, as the customer is purchasing one complete pilot system but realizing the benefits of two pilots being installed on the flare stack. Upgrading from a single-nozzle to a dual-nozzle design is simple and typically costs less than 10% of initial price.

Cost Savings – Ongoing

Compared to conventional single-nozzle designs, the dual-nozzle’s inherent redundancy and alarm system greatly reduces the risk of a costly shutdown due to pilot failure. The monitoring system reliably communicates any service alarms, aiding in proactive maintenance planning while allowing for uninterrupted operation.

FlareTech’s Premier Pilots also boast the following beneficial features.

  • Fully retractable – both 10’ and 15’ long standard pilots are fully retractable to grade.
    • Unique roller design ensures smooth retraction.
    • Allows for simple retraction and quick maintenance to prevent expensive plant shutdowns.
    • Hand-powered, drill-driven, and electric motor winch options available.
  • Exceptionally low fuel gas consumption – pilots can operate on natural gas, sour gas, or propane.
    • Typical consumption is only 25 SCFH for natural gas or 7.5 SCFH for propane.
  • High-grade stainless-steel construction – ensures reliable, long term performance in the hot corrosive conditions of a flare stack tip.
  • Threaded piping & tubing connections – simplify maintenance and repairs.
  • Flame front ignition system – robust and reliable ignition.
    • Independent, self-aspirating fuel-air and flame front lines.
    • Unique design prevents flashback and accumulation of combustion products in flame front line.
    • Enclosed spark ignitor is protected from flame exposure, ensuring long life.
  • Nema 4X ignition panel enclosure – ensures reliable, long-term performance of electronics.
    • Includes standard heat shield.
    • Optional upgraded heat shield for added protection from very hot flares.
  • Economical models – low-cost, single-nozzle options.
    • Well-suited for cost sensitive applications.
    • Includes bolt-on, non-retractable designs.
