This Friday, Canada Action and I will lead a tour of Cenovus’ Foster Creek Oil Sands project with the Mayor of Victoria, Lisa Helps, along with industry leaders. We will visit a steam-assisted gravity draining oil sands project and will be meeting with local stakeholders.
As you may recall, us City of Calgary Councillors invited our counterparts from Victoria to join us for a tour after Victoria City Council endorsed a potential class-action lawsuit against the oil sands industry.
To me, this is not just a Calgary story or an Alberta story – this is a Canadian story that affects us all. I believe that as Canadians, we all benefit from the ethical and environmentally sound development of our energy sector.
I also believe that this is a unique opportunity to showcase Canada’s energy sector first hand. The tour demonstrates that as an industry, we value being open and transparent about the development and extraction of product, and are always willing to promote fact-based knowledge to address misconceptions as they may arise.
I look forward to having a positive and productive conversation with Mayor Helps regarding Canada’s energy industry – a conversation that is rooted in mutual respect and understanding of each other’s positions.
Finally, I thank our friends at Canada Action for organizing the trip, and for their continued advocacy on Canada’s energy industry.
