Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada (September 10, 2018) – The 33rd annual Oil Sands Trade Show & Conference will rally together the oil sands industry on September 11 & 12 at Suncor Community Leisure Centre, MacDonald Island.  With the news of the Court ruling out the Trans Mountain Pipeline, the Show will become the rallying point for the industry.

“The Oil Sands Trade Show presents an amazing opportunity for industry to meet, to provides a platform for all of us to let the federal government know Alberta counts and we need to be heard,” said Wes Scott, President and CEO of event organizer EventWorx Corporation.  “With the support of our customers and partners, we will gather the industry to show our support and discuss what’s next for our Province.”

The Oil Sands Trade Show & Conference has been an industry meeting hub since 1985.  This year’s event has been reimagined, with more education and training for Operators, and more opportunities for the supply chain to network and get updates on the future of the sector.

On Tuesday, September 11, First Nations will take to the Oil Sands Main Stage at the Keynote Luncheon at 11:45 am. Joining the panel are Chief Jim Boucher of Fort McKay First Nation; Chief Archie Waquan of Mikisew Cree First Nation, Bruno Francoeur, Regional Operations Executive, Suncor Energy, and JP (Jean Paul) Gladu, President and CEO of Canadian Aboriginal Business Council  The panel will discuss Planning the Future: The Shift Towards the Next Generation of Oil Sands Production.

The Oil Sands Main Stage will also feature a free-to-attend set of keynote presentations, including a panel themed Oil Sands Innovation in a Low Carbon Economy. Panel guests include Honourable Margaret McCuaig-Boyd, Minister of Energy – Government of Alberta;  Jeremy Gizen, VP, Production Optimization, MEG Energy; Michael McGregor, Senior Technology Engineer, Suncor Energy; Vince Wallwork, Process Innovation manager,CNRL.

Other keynotes on Tuesday, September 11 include Shelley Powell, Senior Vice President, Operations – Suncor Energy, discussing Digitizing Suncor’s StrategyKevin Birn, Vice President North American Markets – IHS Markit on The Markets, the Economics and the Infrastructure.

The Exhibition has changed its operating hours to suit attendee work schedules, and will open on Tuesday, September 11 at 1:00 pm to 8:30 pm, and from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Wednesday, September 12.  Over 200 exhibiting companies will offer products and services for the supply chain, and this year some will be featured in the new “Meet The Experts Series,” which will allow attendees to have their questions answered about technology, equipment, and more on a one-to-one basis.

On Wednesday, September 12, outspoken Canadian journalist and author Rex Murphy will deliver a rousing and rallying address at the Keynote Luncheon.  As Rex says it via The National Post, “No other state or province, and no other single project has borne the weight of calumny and accusation as have Alberta and the oil sands. No campaigns against projects in China, India, the Middle East, the U.S. or Latin America have been of even near duration or intensity as their relentless crusade against Fort McMurray. The oil sands are as a pinprick in the world’s energy production, yet as the eco-Furies paint them, they are Armageddon’s launch pad.”

Rounding out the Show is a Technical Conference and Workforce/Labour Conference on September 11 & 12.  Some of the presentations to be delivered focus on the legalization of marijuana, and how companies need to be ready for changes in the Labour Act.  Conference fees apply at $149.00 + GST, for access to both days and all technical presentations.

Of course, networking events are the prime time to rally the industry, and the Show will present The Big Party on September 11 at 8:30 pm at Shell Place Grand Ballroom.  Transforming into “Vegas of the North,” The Big Party features a fun casino, live entertainment, and a generous array of food and beverage.
