Burnaby Mayor is holding up Trans Mountain: Here’s what you can do – Take Action

November 22, 2017 Cody Battershill

If you thought the Kinder Morgan TransMountain expansion was approved and good to go, it turns out you were only half right.

Oh sure, the Federal government is on-side, and so is National Energy Board. So, too, are all First Nations along the route. As large infrastructure projects go, TransMountain’s approval is especially strong.

Why is it not yet proceeding? Who’s holding it up? It turns out the delay is coming from a local mayor in the BC city of Burnaby, and his friends in the newly-elected BC NDP government.

That’s why I hope you’ll exercise your democratic rights, pick up the phone and call Burnaby Mayor Derek Corrigan, or send him an email. Tell him what he’s doing undermines the country’s rule of law, hurts our economy, kills jobs and starves our social programs. In short, it’s plain wrong.

While you’re at it, remind him of a few facts:

Fact 1

Every First Nation along the pipeline route supports the project. EVERY SINGLE ONE.

Fact 2

The original TransMountain pipeline has operated since 1953 without serious malfunction.

Fact 3

The federal government has approved this project, and view it’s completion as being in Canada’s best interests.

Fact 4

The TransMountain expansion project has undergone years of review and will be built to the very highest global standards.

Please let the mayor of Burnaby know you support #TransMountain. Tell him to support Canadian energy, our sector’s best practices, and our country’s rule of law. Email him here: mayor@burnaby.ca or call him here: 604-294-7340

Let’s get our energy to world markets. Let’s maintain our record of safety. Let’s build the TransMountain expansion project.
