Oil and Gas in the Digital Era Forum – PTAC

The Canadian oil and gas industry is entering an era of considerable transformation – An industry once driven solely by resources is now driven predominantly by technology and innovation. Specifically, the digitization of the energy sector will have a profound effect on operational efficiencies, cost reductions, and environmental responsibility within our industry, and will inevitably alter the industrial landscape as it presently exits. This forum will provide attendees with insight into how Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, IoT, Machine Learning and Analytics are currently influencing industry operations, and the unprecedented impact that these activities will have on future operations. Experts representing a vast array of stakeholders from across the digital spectrum will be presenting their ideas surrounding the current state of technology within our industry, implementation challenges, and the overarching outlook for a future in which the oil and gas industry and digital technologies are inextricably intertwined.This event will be divided into six sessions:

Session 1 Panel: Leveraging Digital Innovation in the Oil and Gas Sector – Impact on Current and Future Operations.

This panel will take a closer look at the necessary steps required to advance digitization in the oil and gas sector, as well as the current state of technology, and the overarching challenges presently facing our industry in adopting digital technologies such as blockchain, artificial intelligence, and machine learning.

Session 2: Blockchain

This session will focus on the fundamentals of Blockchain and the disruptive impact of its application within the oil and gas industry. Speakers will also explore how our industry can adapt Blockchain applications within everyday operations, and will expand upon anticipated future changes as a result of Blockchain activities.   

Session 3: Artificial Intelligence

Speakers in this session will introduce the audience to the evolution of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the oil and gas industry and will explore just how “ready” our industry is for AI uptake. Presenters will also investigate the future of AI within the hydrocarbon energy sector, taking a closer look at the predicted transformations that will take place within the next decade.  

Session 4 Panel: The Digital Era in Oil and Gas – Innovating Quickly and Frequently

This panel session will take a closer look at transforming digital innovation into valuable outcomes. Panel experts will explore the necessity for the oil and gas industry to adopt new business strategies in order to survive within the digital space, and focus on the importance for stakeholders to innovate quickly and frequently.

Session 5: Internet of Things, Machine Learning & Analytics

Audience members will be introduced to the overarching challenges and opportunities which exist within the Canadian oil and gas industry with respect to the Internet of Things (IoT), and will learn more about how IoT is transforming the Digital Oilfield. Speakers will also present value added opportunities available through Machine Learning and Analytics, within everyday oil and gas operations.

Session 6: Real World Applications of Digitization in Oil and Gas

Companies are making changes today in order to effectively leverage digitization within the oil and gas industry. This final session will take a closer look at real world digital applications taking place in our sector today. These case studies will exemplify how business models, corporate strategies, and annual budgets are evolving to incorporate digital technologies into everyday operations, highlighting the critical need to innovate rapidly in this ever-changing digital environment.

Networking Reception

In conclusion of the forum, there will be a one hour networking reception where participants will have the opportunity to enjoy refreshments, share ideas and connect with participating industry leaders and stakeholders.
