After a positive federal election result for the expansion of the Trans Mountain pipeline, Project Reconciliation is increasing efforts to buy the project.

The Indigenous-led organization wants to buy a majority interest in TMX. If successful, more than 300 First Nations and Métis communities across Western Canada would be eligible for a stake.

“Almost 70 per cent of Canadians voted for parties that support the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion,” said Chief Delbert Wapass, Executive Chair and Founder of Project Reconciliation. “We were pleased to see the prime minister re-commit to the expansion, and know he wants Indigenous ownership.

“It’s time to get this done so Indigenous communities can use the benefits to improve lives. As  profits accrue to our innovative Sovereign Wealth Fund, they’ll be invested in fighting poverty and clean energy to help us fight climate change,” he said.

Monday, November 4, 2019 at 1.30 p.m., Wapass will speak to the National Coalition of Chief’s Energy and Resource Summit in Calgary about the benefits of Project Reconciliation and how communities can show their support.

The conference runs on Monday and Tuesday of next week and will also feature a keynote address from Premier Jason Kenney.
