In November 2015 the Government of Alberta announced the Climate Leadership Plan. One component of this plan is a commitment to reduce methane emissions from the upstream oil & gas sector 45% from the 2014 level by 2025. The AER is leading a multi-stakeholder process to inform the design on new regulation that will deliver this policy target while minimizing the financial impact on the industry. Mark’s talk will give an overview of the existing methane ‘landscape’, discuss the guiding principles of the AER’s regulatory development and touch on specific impacts these regulations may have on CAPPA members.
